Lahore Fort also known as “Shahi Qila”, it is a citadel built in the 11th century and then it was rebuilt in the 17th century as well. This fort has gone through many renovations over the years but still, when you step in this fort it feels like stepping back in the history. Lahore Fort is an architectural masterpiece and was named “World Heritage” by The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
There is a lot to explore in this fort and it would take you back in history while you are exploring it.

Majestic Akbari Gate

The first thing to notice while exploring the fort is the Akbari gate. It is on the eastern side of the fort and was built in 1566 A.D. by Emperor Akbar. This gate still stands today and is a masterpiece.

Gigantic Alamgiri Gate

This gate is located right in front of Badshahi Mosque and was built in the 1670s. This gate portrays discipline and showcases dignity and grace. It is pretty huge and a great work of architecture.

The Eight Doors Building

This building is known as Ath Dara and is Located in the Sheesh Mahal of the fort and has eight doors to the outside. This building was used by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh for court purposes. This building has so many little details of craftsmanship and the ceiling is covered in mirror work. The work is damaged but it still feels mesmerizing to watch those buildings and walls full of history.

Bangla Naulakha

It was built in the historic Mughal era. This building is known for its work of stones. The stones that are embedded are Agate, Jade, and Goldstone. If you ever look up you will find stupendous work of mirror and wooden trellises just like a contrast.

Diwan-e-Aam

It was constructed by Shah Jahan in the early 1640s. It has 14 pillars. It was deteriorating but was rebuilt by the British in 1849.

Diwan-e-Khas

This diwan was also constructed in the 1640s and it was only considered for a special audience. It is mostly made up of marble and has Agate, jade, and other valuable stones embedded in it too. With the other marble work, there is a special marble work that is handcrafted for the royalty that used it.

Hathi Paeir

It is a staircase designed for elephants to take the royalty away from the palace into the outer courtyard. It has 58 wide steps that are 18 meters long.

Moti Masjid

Moti Masjid is also known as Pearl Mosque because of its white marble work. It still stands today yet it was built in the late 1600s.

Paien Bagh

It has brickwork all over and has a fountain in the center of the garden, it was built for women only. It is in the reward garden which is in the center of Mughal Garden.

Exploring the Fort

For entering the fort, you have to buy a ticket that costs just 40 to 50 PKR. If you want to enjoy all the fort and are not in the mood of walking then there are different golf cars that can give you a ride up to the inner courtyard of the fort and then you can start exploring.
There are also some cart rides that are called “baghi”. People love to enjoy its ride and it gives some historic vibes as well.
There is a high chance that you might feel hunger while exploring, but don’t have to worry at all because inside the fort there are so many vendors that sell street food and it is worth trying for.
